Deutsche Investment Retail Recruits Matthias Kreil as Head of Asset Management

Hamburg, 16 October 2019 – Deutsche Investment Retail (DIR) recruited Matthias Kreil (aged 39) as Head of Asset Management and Research as of 1 October 2019. In future, he will be in charge of the asset management for food-anchored local grocery stores and retail warehouse parks, full-line grocery stores and discount supermarkets.

Matthias Kreil’s sphere of ownership comprises the management of the retail properties to be acquired, including site and property analyses and appraisals, the long-term management of incumbent tenants, the management and optimisation of each property, the further development of sites and the lettings management including the development and implementation of the letting strategy. He will also temporarily handle the transaction management until the unit is adequately staffed. In the course of his duties, he will be supported by a team of specialist employees with the relevant skill sets. To this end, the DIR team will be successively expanded during the coming months.

Originally a chartered geographer, Matthias Kreil acquired a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at the University of Münster. He started his professional career in the research unit of DTZ Zadelhoff Tie Leung in Frankfurt am Main in 2007 and transferred to Colliers Schauer & Schöll in Munich in 2009, where he was put in charge of research. Important stations of his career since 2011 include various executive positions with real estate companies like METRO Group in Düsseldorf and Cologne as well as with HBS Global Properties Germany GmbH since 2015, where he became responsible for the management of properties in a combined value of several billion euros in May 2017.

“In the person of Matthias Kreil, we were able to win a proven retail expert who brings extensive management experience and detailed market know-how in this sector to the job,” said Enver Büyükarslan, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Investment KVG. “With Susanne Klaussner, the incoming Managing Director who will take over the helm of DIR on 1 December 2019, and Matthias Kreil, we have now gained two high-key personalities with comprehensive retail competencies for our company.”
